January 8 — Ai for good, escaped Nazis, closing doors (in life), and a video to set it all straight

Ai and kids’ art

Here’s a fun use for Ai! thingsihavedrawn used Ai brings children’s art to life. Watch it on X.

It’s easy to close doors

My four-year-old son closes doors with ease but has to concentrate with fingers gripping doorknobs to open them. It’s a solid metaphor for an important life principle: closing doors is much easier than opening doors.

The Door of Opportunity is not always wide open for all of us. For some, it opens perhaps only once in life. (Although, you may know this about me: I don’t believe in luck so I firmly believe the door of opportunity is opened through intelligent strategy, leveraging skills and an undying perseverance.)

Closing the Door of Opportunity can happen quite easily, and not always by direct choice. Maybe you stumble upon a conversation with that perfect client or employer but they wrote you off because you were wearing sweat pants. Or you totaled your primary car and had to replace it with the money you had saved for a house. Life happens and this door can close abruptly, and some doors permanently. Tiptoeing up to the big 4-0, I am already recognizing some doors that are now closed to me. I may never ascend Everest or K2. That multi-month backpacking trip across China may never happen.

So let’s let my young son remind us all to be decisive about the doors we close and intentional and determined about the doors we aim to open.

What happened to the Nazis who escaped?

There were many, apparently. Some were found. Some never found. One even spoke out about it. This YouTube video explains how several top-ranking SS officers escaped the Nuremberg trials following WWII.

Brace yourself, this hits the heart

This inspiring reel is the most important video you will watch this week. It will touch your heart, your mind. It will light the fire in you to keep you on track. It will help you re-prioritize to focus on what you’ve got and love those around you a little bit more.
