Prepare the area for repair

  • Clear the surrounding area of any furniture or decor
  • Lay down a drop cloth to catch any debris or dust

Cut out and replace the damaged drywall

  • Mark the damaged area with a square or rectangle outline
  • Use a drywall saw to cut along the outline and remove the damaged section

Install a patch and tape

  • Cut a new piece of drywall to fit the hole
  • Secure the patch with screws or adhesive
  • Apply mesh drywall tape to cover the seams

Apply joint compound and sand

  • Spread joint compound over the tape and smooth it out
