Prepare the area for repair
- Clear the surrounding area of any furniture or decor
- Lay down a drop cloth to catch any debris or dust
Cut out and replace the damaged drywall
- Mark the damaged area with a square or rectangle outline
- Use a drywall saw to cut along the outline and remove the damaged section
Install a patch and tape
- Cut a new piece of drywall to fit the hole
- Secure the patch with screws or adhesive
- Apply mesh drywall tape to cover the seams
Apply joint compound and sand
- Spread joint compound over the tape and smooth it out
- Allow the compound to dry completely before sanding it down for a smooth finish
