A podcast I’m digging
This recent episode on Jocko Willink’s podcast is one of the best yet. His interview with legendary bow hunter Cameron Hanes covered a lot of topics including sobriety and a growing popularity in abstaining from alcohol, a core problem with American government, readings from Hanes’ new book UNDENIABLE, and a winning mindset.
Here’s a motivating quote from the book:
“If you can’t bet on yourself, who […] are you going to bet on? Every single outlier I’ve met has bet on himself time and time again in his life. It comes back to what I said at the start of this chapter. Just because you believe you will find success doesn’t mean you deserve it.
That’s actually got a quote from a guy named Mike Waddell embedded in there but I don’t own UNDENIABLE yet, so I’m working off audio from the podcast for this one. This episode is definitely worth a listen. There’s some cussing FYI.
My boy took first steps!
My second son started crawling at a scary young age but took his sweet time walking on two feet. He’s been standing up, holding on to stuff and shimmying for a few months now but hesitated to take that first step without support.
Well he finally did today. We watched him–determined–make up his mind and take a step, then another, then another.
And then he did the same thing like 10 more times, so it’s official. He can walk now. Yay!
In other news, my older son had a birthday over the weekend and SPIDERMAN visited the party! Seeing a bunch of 4 and 5-year-olds go crazy for the superhero moment while the 2-year-olds scream in fear is priceless.
I’m competing in Jiu Jitsu this weekend
Saturday I’ll compete in the NAGA Connecticut Grappling Championship, in the 30+ welterweight class. I’m stoked, not stressed, focused, and ready. I’ll make weight too, which is great. Buuuuut there’s no one else registered in my weight class so I’ll likely get moved up to the next weight class. Let’s gooooooo!
My wife is the resident ChatGPT expert
My wife Greta got special recognition recently for a custom GPT that she built for work. The GPT helps managers across the HR department entire company of New York Life access info about their teams, the people and other data that helps them make decisions in real time.
It’s pretty cool. And she’s awesome!
