February 19 — Time capsule in the modern age, AI voices, legendary dirtbag, snowplow/french fries

A documentary I watched

The documentary Dirtbag: The Legend of Fred Beckey follows the world-famous climber, mountaineer, and dirtbag, Fred Becky. His personality was larger than life, and he was a true inspiration. This was a pretty rad doc, with plenty of humor, worth a watch for sure on Amazon Prime.

If you’re not a Fred Becky yourself, you need one in your life.

I went skiing with my boy

My older son went skiing this past weekend and it was beautiful. He was doing the french fries (straight skis) when he wanted to go faster and pizza/snowplow for slowing down and braking. Of course he was held back by a harness and the strength of my thoroughly-exhausted quad muscles.

He did really well. He was afraid a few times but I shared something with him that he put right to practice. I told him how courage is feeling afraid but doing it anyway. He picked himself up and got right back to skiing down the mountain. He went to the top of the mountain several times. I’m a proud dad.

The law of diminishing returns, pizza edition

In economics, the law of diminishing returns suggests that while your total satisfaction of the next good thing might increase, it doesn’t increase as much as it did with that first good thing. Here’s an AI voice I created with ElevenLabs to explain it in terms of slices of pizza:

Clickbait: The digital time capsule

Use your email as a time capsule to your future self. Log in to your email, draft a message to your future self, and schedule it to send in the future. This can be years in the future, and you can use it for:

    • goal setting
    • reminiscing
    • making memories with family
    • what would you use it for?
